Welcome to Yahoo!’s New York Data Center Site

As Yahoo!’s user base continues to grow, the need to build a Northeast data center became increasingly critical. Western NY has several critical assets that made it an ideal location for Yahoo!’s state-of-the-art data center. Yahoo! was seeking a community that might be a home not only for the data center building but, also for most of the Yahoo! employees who will run the facility.

The productive dialogue with the local authorities made it possible for Yahoo! to locate in this wonderful area. On May 19th, the New York Power Authority (NYPA) voted to approve a power allocation for Yahoo!. Yahoo! was encouraged to learn of NYPA’s commitment to its possible Western NY data center. Reliable and competitively priced hydropower fits with the company’s commitment to sustainability and was a determining factor in the company’s final siting decision.

Former Governor David Paterson of New York and Senator Schumer were also instrumental to helping Yahoo! locate in Western New York. In a joint announcement, Governor Paterson and Yahoo! announced that Yahoo! would locate a data center in New York State. We are also very thankful to the local IDA, the BNE and the Empire State Corporation.

We are looking forward to being part of the community.
